Last night, Flyability was announced as winner of the Offshore Support Journal (OSJ) Safety Award for 2025. This year, Vroon is once again the proud sponsor of this prestigious annual Award, which was presented by Stuart Thom, Managing Director Vroon Offshore Services Aberdeen, at the Annual OSJ Conference, Awards & Exhibition, held in London.
At Vroon, safety is a core value that guides all our operations and daily actions. We are committed to the safety and health of our employees and those we serve, believing that safety is a mindset integral to decision-making. With safe practices forming the cornerstone of our business, celebrating new innovations in this field is very much in line with our ethos.
The OSJ Safety Award recognises a company, person, project or product that has either set industry safety benchmarks and/or made the difference in terms of safety of life, property and environment in an offshore-support-vessel (OSV) operation or incident over the last 12 months.
This year’s Award recognises Flyability’s pioneering work in vessel inspection using drone technology. With its new drone Elios 3 UT, Flyability can conduct close-up, systematic vessel visual inspections, using the power of a computer and LiDAR mapping. The UT payload developed in collaboration with Cygnus Instruments allows a drone to perform accurate thickness measurements on vessels and equipment. Elios 3 UT provides all the data needed for class inspection. Using advanced drone technology allows surveyors to avoid work at height and in confined spaces, improving safety for workers in the maritime industry.
Also nominated were:
- IMCA: Workshop series promotes walk-to-work safety;
- Guidance Marine: Targetless sensor SceneScan reduces human error and equipment interference;
- Zelim: ZOE Intelligent Detection.
We congratulate Flyability on winning the Award, and commend the other shortlisted contenders for their well-deserved nominations.
