Day of the Seafarer

Our seafarers form the cornerstone of Vroon’s operations, keeping our vessels operational and continuing to show resilience in these challenging times. The Day of the Seafarer is an annual event, initiated by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) to recognise the unique role of seafarers in our global community. Taking place on 25 June, this Day salutes the vital contributions made by seafarers across the world to international seaborne trade, the world economy and society.

The theme for this year’s event is: “Your voyage – then & now, share your journey” #SeafarerJourney. While every individual seafarer’s “journey” is different, they all face similar challenges. The idea behind the 2022 campaign is to give seafarers a platform to share their experiences and talk about what matters most to them at this particular time. These stories on (social) media channels give us the opportunity to follow a seafarer’s journey, see how has it evolved over time and what remains at the heart of his or her life.

In the run-up to 25 June, we encouraged our colleagues, ashore and at sea, to take part in daily discussions, sharing their photos and experiences. And how we enjoyed reading all stories during this week. We rounded off the week with a LIVE event in the office, with CEO Herman Marks and a number of (ex)seafarers looking back at the highlights of the stories submitted and sharing their personal journeys with Vroon.

On the Day of the Seafarer, we send our appreciation to all colleagues, at sea and ashore. We are proud to have you as a member of the Vroon team. We thank you for your hard work, dedication and resilience.
